It’s March which means that the Madness is beginning in NCAA basketball. As the big tourney creeps ever-closer, teams are jousting for tournament bids. This weekend will see some college’s getting automatic bids.

Some notable schools in the running this weekend include the following:

The Southern Conference title game matchup has yet-to-be-determined as of press time. Davidson vs. Furman (Davidson -10½) and Appalachian St. vs. the College of Charleston are duking it out for berths in the SoCon title game.

Austin Peay vs. Samford (Austin Peay -4, Total 121) and Eastern Kentucky vs. Tennessee Tech (Tenn. Tech -2½, Total 131) are in the running for the Ohio Valley title.

 

FEATURE

It seems that ever year at this time the United States is stricken with a certain malady. People stare with glazed eyes, sometimes losing breath, suddenly going into fits of pandemonium. Flu season? No, American Idol fever.

There are a lot of things associated with American Idol that could tantalize betting appetites.

There is the usual straight betting on who is favored to win the coveted recording contract. As it stands, Lakisha Jones (+300), Melinda Doolittle (+350) and Blake Lewis (+400) are the top three betting favorites.

But there are some interesting side bets as well.

In the fine tradition established by Miss USA Tara Conner, one of the Idol contestants is involved in some scandalous behaviour. Some, um, risqué pictures of Antonella Barba (+900) have been circulating and that has led to the birth of a betting market unto itself.

There were betting options on whether she would get the axe—which she didn’t, at least this week—and there are some other interesting betting nuggets.

Will she pose nude for Playboy or Penthouse? +600 and +800 respectively.

Will she have an affair with Simon Cowell or Paula Abdul? Interestingly enough it was +100,000 for Paula and +150,000 for Simon.

Will she have a “wardrobe malfunction”? +8000 if you think yes. Twenty four American Idol hopefuls remain.
