Kramer Flips Out

I guess I missed the Seinfeld episode where Kramer douses a cross with gasoline and heads to Harlem. As I’m sure many of you heard, Michael Richards, the actor who brilliantly portrayed Cosmo Kramer on one of the best sitcoms ever, completely lost it during his stand-up act, lashing out at a few audience members. During his routine at the L.A.-based Laugh Factory, the K-man acted like the KKK after being heckled, going into a tirade that included racial slurs. It didn’t take long for the online sportsbook community to jump into the fray with books offering prop bets on Richards’ next move. Will he tour Africa, confess to being part of the aforementioned hate group, donate to the NAACP or marry an African American man?

POKER

People, who have followed the evolution of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, will notice that there are certain exemptions, i.e. horse racing and lotteries. The reason is not strictly hypocrisy as some might suggest. It also has something to do with horse racing lobbyists who try to influence politicians to vote in favor of their interests.

Well it seems as if poker lobbyists might be beginning to gain steam. First the American Gaming Association changed positions and decided to go the pro-regulation route. There is a strong push in Congress to initiate a study on online gambling and many of the AGA’s membership are part of the Vegas casino scene. Could an exemption for online poker be coming?

On an unrelated note, a man in Littleton, Colorado is co-founder of a company that organizes up to 1,200 tournaments every week. Nick Meyers is president of the National Pub Poker League, which hosts poker tourneys at pubs and restaurants. Before you Dept. of Justice types start sending SWAT teams out to Littleton, let us clarify by stating that the prizes are non-monetary and consist of bar tabs, points and key chains. No word on if you have to claim bar tabs for income tax purposes.

Hello all and to all of those from the USA, Happy Thanksgiving. Speaking of turkey, if you want to see a butterball of a different sort, read the above article.

We all know that there have been poker themed movies—Maverick and Rounders etc.—and we all know that James Bond movies (and even 007 spoof Austin Powers for that matter) have had poker scenes as well, but the latest Bond flick steps it up in terms of poker promotion.

First off, the movie is entitled Casino Royale, there is supposedly a poker scene between Bond and the villain Le Chiffre and now PokerStars is jumping on the Double-O bandwagon. If you are playing in their freeroll on December 9, you have the chance to win an Aston Martin DBS, the fine automobile that current 007 incarnation Daniel Craig cruises in. If you’re lucky enough to win the car, make sure you haven’t had any martinis, whether they are shaken or stirred.

And on the topic of casinos, we’ve given our UK site, www.winneronline.co.uk a makeover. Surf over to check out the new look.
